The HLC has been closed to the public since the start of the pandemic back in March 2020. During the pandemic we had to make some significant changes to how we ran the centre to ensure we followed all the government guidelines whilst still ensuring we were able to still support the vulnerable members of our community. We ensured our phone lines were still open if someone needed to talk, answering emails, signposting, and continuing our courses online where possible.
We ran 45 winter celebration coffee morning packages across Aylesbury, High Wycombe, and Chesham to the existing members of our Asian women’s support group, 25 afternoon tea boxes to our senior members in Aylesbury and delivered 15 hot meals to our more vulnerable users. We were also able to offer £50 vouchers to families in need to pay towards gas and electric payments and supporting parents who needed to purchase children’s school uniforms, shoes or winter coats as well as ensuring children’s basic needs were met.
In July we held a summer fayre event focused on health and well-being for the local community to enjoy our facilities and get any support they might need. We welcomed families across Aylesbury and beyond back into the centre for an afternoon of activities, workshops and fitness classes.
We are now looking forward to the future and welcoming everyone back to the HLC. We have rebranded and updated our website and logo to improve how we connect with the community. We are hoping to reopen all our activities and introduce additional services and support groups that the community can benefit from. We have a new, state of the art Sensory Room available for hire as well as a Second-Hand Shop with all items ranging from 20p to £5. We have also improved our website to provide up to date activity timetables, lists of events in and around the centre and the facility all with the ability to book online.
“We are delighted to let you know that the HLC will be opening its doors to the public from Monday 19th July, cant wait to have you back as you are the heart of this centre” Marcela Heime, CEO
We want to say a big thank you to all the funders, businesses and organisations who have worked with us during this difficult time as we continue to tackle health and wellbeing inequalities in areas of Buckinghamshire. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for the HLC!
