Big Bear Nursery
The Big Bear activity programme
At the Big Bear nursery we run a weekly activity programme for children who attend the nursery. This programme is designed to develop the child’s physical, communication and social skills. Each session is 30 minutes long. Children are encouraged to join in; the child can however dip in and out of the session and free flow through the room, dependant on their attention levels and individual needs.
Weekly Activity programmes:-
- Wednesday afternoon there is a French session for children aged 1-5 years
- Friday afternoons there is a music session for children aged 1-5 years.
All of the Big Bear staff are Makaton trained and they sign to children throughout the session to encourage confidence with regards to developing communication skills.
All staff are trained to deliver the letters and sounds programme. This programme is designed for children aged 3 years+ and encourages emergent reading and writing.
The Big Bear nursery has been awarded the Smile Award. This award shows that the nursery promotes positive oral health. Tooth brushes are supplied free to all children who stay for lunch.
We have parent partnership workshops each term. We have successfully completed our Eat Better Start Better workshop.
We will be running our book start programme this term, and next term we are starting our parent advice surgery.
